Telemedicine Q & A

Shawn Hamilton, MD

What is Telemedicine?

Telemedicine is the ability to receive clinical care — without an in-person visit — through the use of electronic technologies and software. Furthermore, with the increasing sophistication of smartphone apps, you can now access your physicians over your phone while you’re on the go. Dr. Shawn Hamilton employs telemedicine certified software that protects the privacy of patients if you do not wish to use your smartphone for examination of the private area.

What Conditions Can Be Treated with Telemedicine?

Telemedicine works well as a follow-up after a face-to-face visit. Dr. Hamilton can check in and discuss with you whether your symptoms have diminished or whether you’re having any side effects from any medications she has prescribed.

Telemedicine can also be used for chronic disease management, medication management, or to discuss outcomes after you meet with a specialist. With the addition of telemedicine to her practice, Dr. Hamilton is available to treat you at your convenience.

What are the Benefits of Telemedicine?

Convenience is one of the biggest advantages of telemedicine. It allows you to see your doctor without taking a lot of time away from your work or personal business and saves on travel costs.

Other advantages include:

  • Less time away from child or elder care
  • Less time traveling to the doctor's office
  • No need to take off from work
  • No exposure to contagious illnesses while in the waiting room

What is Involved in the Setup for Telemedicine?

Dr. Hamilton has simplified the setup for telemedicine for her practice. It doesn’t take much to be able to access this service.

The first step is to email her office your name, address, phone number, medication list, recent procedures you’ve had done, and your medical conditions. Once the office receives this information, the staff will send you an activation code to create your portal. At that time, you can request a web visit. The portal allows you to have a secure video conference.  If you do not have concerns over the privacy of your consultation, you can simply email us your request and we will call you to collect $45 flat fee for the visit and provide you with a time for the visit. The email to use for this is remoteofficema1@gmail.com.

Before the visit is scheduled, payment should be made with a credit card. For your convenience, filling prescriptions, referrals, and test orders can be sent through the portal, directly to your pharmacy or test centers. This is considered a cash visit and does not require insurance. Through 2018, you can schedule a 10-minute promo visit for $45.

Telemedicine is an exciting new service offered by Dr. Hamilton’s practice. Call her office to find out more details or set up your portal today. It will greatly improve your health to receive timely exemplary care from a highly regarded physician.
